The Reef:
Not only do the Warm Water
Jetties in Carlsbad provide some warm water for a fun
session but also give some awesome waves ready to be surfed.
Because there are jetties surrounding the beach, there are
some rocks in the lineup. The beach is sandy and rocks
aren't a huge problem. Make sure to take extreme caution
while surfing near the jetties as it can be very easy to be
pushed into them and not only ruin your board but ruin your
day.
Please note:
Jetties can provide awesome waves with the shape and their
ability to shape waves but they can be extremely dangerous
to surfers. If caught in a rip current, paddle South to get
away from the jetties and to get out of the current. I don't
recommend surfing by these jetties but if you decide to,
please be careful.
The Surf:
Best
Tide: Medium to High tides are best for the jetties so
the waves have more room to break and shape up.
Best
Swell Directing: West and Northwest swells but during
the Summer months, a clean Southwest swell can lead to some
awesome waves at these jetties
Best
Winds: No wind is best but if any, a East wind will do
wonders.
Best
Size: Anywhere from 2 - 6 feet.
Best
Months to Catch it Going Off: September through April
are best best but the Summer months can also provide some
fun waves.

The beach at the Warm Water
Jetties
Like stated above, surfing
any jetty can be dangerous and extreme caution should be
taken. With that said, these jetties can provide some
amazing waves with the right swell and conditions. With a
Northwest in the water, the South jetty can make some
awesome rights. The wave stands up as it gets close to the
jetties and then just peels off toward the beach.
The take off is crucial
because of the nearby rocks but once the take off is
secured, these jetties can make some amazing walls and
sections for a fun wave.
