Solana Beach Surf Spot
Not a whole lot of
surfer's talk about Solana as being one of those "epic"
spots but it's most definitely one of the most beautiful
surf spots in all of San Diego County. It's like a small
beach oasis in the mist of a full blown city! The steep
cliffs and sandy beaches that line this portion of coastline
is all but impossible to access due to the homes, condo's
and apartments that line the cliffs which prevent any sort
of beach access.
Although this is one of
the only beach access points in Solana, the cove itself is
called Fletcher Cove so throughout this review, we will go
back and forth between both names.

Location:
Solona Beach or the
Fletcher Coves are located just South of Seaside and Cardiff
but within walking distance of Del Mar. This beach is
surrounded by houses and apartments which makes this beach
access a popular one to say the least.

The Parking Scenario:
There is a very large
parking located right at the end of Plaza Drive which is the
main source of parking for this Solana Beach and surf spot.
During the Summer months, this parking lot can get packed
full very quickly so you're next best bet is to look around
surrounding side streets and alleys for a spot.
Make sure to note where
you park and definitely double check if you are anywhere near
blocking someone's driveway or a fire lane. There are plenty
of crossroads and alleys nearby so parking, even on
extremely crowded days, shouldn't be too bad.

Beach Accessibility and Conveniences:
Solana beach is has got it
all! From a lot of restrooms to a shower to very capable
lifeguard services. this is a great beach for everyone from
the novice beginner to the seasoned surfer. The beach access
is extremely easy to find and is located in the North side
of the parking lot. It's a long ramp that walks downward
toward the beach.

The Walkway down to the
Fletcher Cove
The public restrooms are
located at the top of the beach access ramp and are
impossible to miss. There are several stalls and they are
all very well maintained by the city of Solana Beach. During
the Summer months, these restrooms get a lot of use which
makes it harder for the city to keep clean so I highly
recommend bringing your sandals in there just as a safety
and cleanliness issue.

The restrooms at the top of
the Beach ramp
Not only does Solana have
the great beach access and restrooms but they also have a
great shower that tops off a long surf session perfectly!
It's located on the right hand side of the ramp as you are
walking up the ramp so it gives you just enough time to dry
off before heading home.

Lifeguard:
There is a lifeguard tower
located right in the middle of the beach at Solana and not
only is the tower open all throughout Summer but the
lifeguard trucks and jeeps routinely patrol this section of
coastline. Make sure to make not if there is a lifeguard on
duty and take caution either way.
