Grandview Crowd and Culture
Well,
here's what I know and have to say about Grandview. Because
Grandview is a somewhat secluded spot surrounded by houses
and apartments filled with surfer's, there is a reality of
localism in the water. It may not be hostile but the locals
at Grandview never seem too excited to see a new face paddle
out into the water on a good day of surf.
The best
way to handle localism in my experiences is to paddle out
into the water with a great attitude and give tons of
respect. Paddle on out there, smile, hoot for other surfers
that get a good wave and make sure to give a few waves when
you first paddle out. Recognize that you don't not have
seniority or respect at this specific break and earn it. If
you have grown up surfing Grandview or are one of the
locals, I'm sure you can understand what I'm saying.
I most
definitely do not recommend paddling out like you're gods
gift to surfing and start taking waves. It will only
make your day of surfing a negative one. A good attitude can
only be infectious and it will make your surfing experience
at a localized surf spot much better.
Surrounding Grandview are houses and apartments that are all
involved in surfing. most of the people that reside in these
houses are surfers so the overall feeling of the Leucadia
area is very surf inspired. After surfing, I always seem to
find myself talking about the surf with a fellow surfer and
for me, that's always a cool experience.
