Del Mar Shores Surf Spot
Del Mar Shores is one of
those beaches that can be totally vacant on a hot summer day
with great surf. It blends right in with the coast line and
if you didn't know where it was, you would drive right by it
without even a second look. But with this knowledge, you can
score some awesome waves on a vacant San Diego beach.
Location:
Del Mar Shores is located
just North of Downtown Del Mar and just South of Solana
Beach. This beach access and beach aren't the easiest to
find so follow our SanDiegoSurfers.com directions and we

The Parking Scenario:
Parking for Del Mar Shores
is easy to find once you have reached the destination. It's
all free parking but due to the fact that this area is
surrounded by condo's and apartments, the street parking can
often be full so take advantage of the free public parking
lots located against Sierra.
The street parking for Del
Mar Shores, the beach access can be found to the far right
corner of this street.
The first parking can be
found just South of Del Mar Shores Drive and is a free
public lot accessible from Sierra.
The second free public
parking lot can be found just North of Del Mar Shores Drive
and is also accessible from Sierra.
Beach Accessibility and Conveniences:
The beach access is
actually pretty hard to find if you don't know where to
look. The beach entrance if located at the Northwest corner
of Del Mar Shores Drive and is a small walkway that twists
and turns through the apartment and condo buildings to a
long set of stairs that will eventually lead you to the sandy
beaches of Del Mar Shores.
First start by walking up
Del Mar Shores Drive heading West.
Secondly, in the Northwest
corner of Del Mar Shores Drive, the beach access can be
seen. Find the sign pictured below and head North on the
walkway.
Turn to the left and walk
up the stairs and then continue on the walkway.
Continue down this walkway
to the stairs which will lead you down to the beach.
Once you've finally
reached the stairs at Del Mar Shores, walk down but take
your time because the stairs are spaced at a awkward angle
and are very easy to get tripped up on.
There are no restrooms or
showers located at Del Mar Shores so be prepared and ready
for any emergencies. The closest restrooms can be found
walking South on the beach and are located at Dog Beach and
are simple port-a-potties.
Lifeguard:
There is a lifeguard tower
located at Del Mar Shores and is only open during the summer
months. The lifeguard tower is located just South of the
where the stairs drop you off onto the beach.
On top of the tower, there
are also patrols that lifeguards routinely do in vehicles
during the day hours.
