Beacon's Surf Spot
Not a lot of surfer's know
about this hidden gem in Leucadia but some awesome waves
break and go into shore with no one on them at this spot on
a good swell. My father first showed me Beacon's about 6
years ago and I might not surf there as much as I would like
but I often find that when I do paddle out, I find good
people and even better waves.

beautiful day at Beacons
Location:
Beacon surf spot is
located in the town of Leucadia, which is a few minutes
North of Encinitas. Houses and apartments surround Beacon's
so the community is very active in surfing and having a good
time in the water.

The Parking Scenario:
There is a small parking
located right on the bluff at Beacon's. There are a few Fire
and City parking spots so be sure to make sure you are not
occupying on those spots because a cop will cite you for
doing so.

The parking lot at Beacon's
The parking lot can
accommodate around 20 vehicles but other parking options are
available. Neptune is a one way street that heads North
along the coastline through Leucadia and there is parking
all along this street. However be very cautious of where you
park, make sure not to block a Fire lane or a person's
driveway.
Beach Accessibility and Conveniences:
Once parked in the
Beacon's parking lot or in the surrounding area. The beach
access to Beacon's is located toward the South end of the
parking lot.
The beach access isn't as
maintained as some other surf spots in the surrounding
area's like Swami's or Moonlight but it does allow for a fun
and exciting walk down to the surf.

The walkway down to
Beacon's beach
The walkway is cut into
the bluff of the cliff and I wouldn't be surprised if this
path was made by fellow surfers eager to hit the waves. It
meanders down the face of the bluff and drops you off right
on the beach.
I would recommend wearing
some sandals on the walk down and be careful. I was in a
hurry to hit the water before work one day and as I was
hurrying down the walkway, I slipped, fell on my ass and
ended up dinging one of my new short boards... So, as a
warning, take your time and be careful! The pathway can be
slippery and not all of it is the best terrain.
Lifeguard:
There
are no Lifeguards on duty at Beacon's surf spot. However,
the Lifeguards often are in there Jeeps and trucks driving
back and forth along the beach.
Since
there is no Lifeguard on permanent duty, please be sure to
be careful and not to know your capabilities while out in
the surf.
